The PEGI (Pan-European Game Information) age rating system enables parents across Europe to make informed decisions when buying video games. Launched in spring 2003, it replaced some national age rating systems with a single system now used in most European countries.
The system is supported by major console manufacturers, including Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, as well as publishers and developers of interactive games throughout Europe. The age rating system was developed by the Interactive Software Federation of Europe (ISFE). The PEGI age rating pictograms appear on the front and back of the packaging with one of the following age classes: 3+, 7+, 12+, 16+ and 18+. They give a reliable indication of the suitability of the contents of the game in terms of the protection of minors. The age classification does not take into account the level of difficulty or skills required to play a game.
